Rhodes

The reason that most people come to Rhodes (or Rhodos in Greek) is the medieval castle which dates back to the 14th century. Built by crusading knights of St John, the castle is a wonder. The walls are approximately 4 km long. The castle is not a ruin or a place to come for a few hours. Inside of the castle walls is where you will find the old town of Rhodes. The castle has many winding streets filled with cafes, shops, restaurants and night-life. An evening in a restaurant or bar can be very romantic and lovely. To see a panorama of the inside of the old town Click Here. While the old town is charming and fun, the new town is much less attractive and less interesting. In addition, the beaches of Rhodes town are not attractive, just a strip of sand next to a busy road packed with tourists. The following video gives a good idea of what the new town looks like. Please note that this is not a recommendation for or against the hotel shown in the video Click HereDepending on your preferences Rhodes town is probably not be a destination for a long holiday. However, the old town of Rhodes is so charming and romantic, that a short visit is certainly worth while.
